The SPEmet Framework

Detecting fraud before the transaction.

A practical framework for understanding how trust, influence and adversarial intent can progress toward consequential action before traditional fraud controls have enough evidence to become certain.

“The transaction is often not the beginning of fraud. It is the point at which an earlier trajectory becomes financially visible.”
The Progression

Move the point of meaningful detection upstream.

Initial Contact

A relationship or adversarial interaction begins.

Trust Formation

Credibility, familiarity and dependency begin developing.

Manipulation

Persuasion, urgency, isolation or pressure intensifies.

Action Preparation

Behavior begins progressing toward consequential action.

Extraction

Traditional financial detection becomes increasingly certain.

Five Principles

A framework for an AI-mediated world.

01

Identity is not intent.

Correctly identifying a person does not prove that their decision is independent, informed or unmanipulated.

02

Authenticity is not trust.

Something can be technically authentic while the surrounding context remains misleading, coerced or adversarial.

03

Trust requires provenance.

Trust should reflect why something is believed, how continuity was established and what independent evidence supports the decision.

04

Consequential decisions need friction.

High-impact actions should contain controls that remain safe even when identity or synthetic-content detection fails.

05

Security must follow trajectories.

Individual events often appear harmless. Progression, persistence and context can reveal what isolated signals cannot.

Decision Integrity

Authentication answers only one part of the question.

A customer can be real. Their device can be real. Their authentication can be valid. The decision can still be manipulated.

Identity

Who appears to be acting?

Authority

Are they entitled to make this decision?

Intent

Is the action genuinely what they intend?

Influence

What forces may be shaping the decision?

The Question
“How early could we have known?”

Turn the framework into operational intelligence.
